“I’ve been through hell, on my way to hell. I only fought with myself, so I’d have a story to tell”
~Jeff Tweedy
Please help me. I’m going to be 65 on May 4, and am facing homelessness if I do not pay my back rent. The only way I can do so is if I meet my GoFundMe goal.
I’m paralyzed and in a wheelchair, but still manage to live independently with the help of a personal assistant, provided to me by the state. Unfortunately, this can lead to exploitation and abuse in your own home, which happened to me and has devastated my life. I’ve lost so much, and I’m in great danger of losing my home. I’m trying really hard to hold onto my dignity. If I am unable to catch up on my rent, I will surely be evicted and have nowhere to go, as it’s really hard to find an apartment that can accommodate my large power wheelchair.
After suffering a great deal of trauma and abuse over the past year, I’ve worked really hard to get my life back and trust people again. I didn’t know the horror disabled people had to live with, until I became one, and it’s been incredibly devastating to me.
I’ve spent my life helping others and have run a Letters to Santa program for the past 25 years via a nonprofit, Direct Effect Charities, which I have now dissolved, as it was simply not sustainable.
I will be continuing on doing the same work and more as an LLC, Direct Effect Charity Consultants, helping people to help people, just as I have always done. If you have something that will help somebody in need, I will find a home for it.
I hope you will continue to support my work, as it is my life and I don’t know what I would do without it. It’s kept me alive for quite a few years, in spite of the severe trauma and abuse that I have lived with, or maybe, as a result of that trauma. They say when you are hurting personally, do something to help someone else. This is how I have dealt with my abuse.
I am overwhelmed with pain and fear right now, and if you can help me save my home, it would mean so much to me. I promise you, I will continue the work I have always done, and then some. I truly believe we should help other people at all times and that is what I have tried to do with my life.
If you can help me now, it would mean more to me than words can say. I will save them for my memoir, as I truly do have a story to tell.
With love and gratitude,
Michelle
