Hello everyone,
My name is Tine, and I’ve been living in the UK since November 2024 as an international university student. Being away from home has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced, and I’m reaching out with a hopeful heart to ask for support so I can visit my family in Zimbabwe this June.
My family back home has been carrying so much for me. They are currently paying for my tuition fees and my rent in the UK, and even while I’m away visiting them, they would still need to continue covering my rent here. Knowing how heavy this burden is for them weighs on me every single day.
Life in Zimbabwe is not easy, and the current economic situation has made everyday living even more challenging. On top of supporting me, my family recently took in my orphan cousin, who has just started high school and she now depends entirely on them. My younger brother is also preparing for his GCSEs this year, which comes with exam fees, school costs, and a lot of pressure. With two children in high school, one in primary school, and myself in university, my family is doing everything they can just to keep going.
My older brother has recently welcomed a new baby and is not in a position to help financially, so the responsibility rests mainly on my parents. As much as I long to go home, I know it would be too much to ask them to also pay for my flight while they are already stretched so thin. A return ticket costs around £700, and summer travel is especially expensive. I’m also hoping to travel in June because my passport expires, which makes this visit especially important.
I miss home deeply. Being far away while my family is under so much financial and emotional strain has been incredibly painful. Going home wouldn’t only mean the world to me — it would also mean a lot to them. Being present, offering emotional support, and especially being there for my little brother as he prepares for his GCSEs would bring comfort and encouragement during such an important and stressful time.
If you’re able to help in any way, even a small amount, I would be truly grateful. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any kindness you’re able to show. It truly means more than I can express.
With love and gratitude, Tine
