Donate to help me teach English in the Dominican

Heyy everyone, My name is Devyn Rankin, and for the past ten years or so, I have been traveling to the Dominican Republic. A couple of years ago, I started volunteering with a locally based mission team called DR Mission Team and Maranatha Missions. These Missions have devoted their time to serving the people of the sugar cane communities called Bateys. A Batey is a rural sugar cane village where the workers cut cane to live and eat. Most of the town's people are Haitians who were promised a better life in the Dominican but still live in extreme poverty. The teams have been working on numerous projects around the Dominican and the bateys since 1990, devoting their time to bettering the lives of those who cut sugar cane. Some projects include building el Buen Samaritano Hospital, weekly medical clinics in different villages, construction projects and rebuilding houses, and food distribution. When I first started volunteering with this mission, I immediately fell in love with the people who run it, what they do, and who they serve. So I decided I wanted to devote part of my life to helping others in the Dominican and working alongside Maranatha Missions. Serving in the DR has changed my life, and I am already counting the days until I can return.

That being said, I graduate from Appalachian State in May and am preparing to go to the Dominican in the Fall. I told the mission leaders that I wanted to come there and serve/teach from August until January. I will be teaching English on a volunteer basis to children who usually would not have the opportunity to learn a second language. Learning English in the Dominican Republic is extremely valuable and can open up many different job and career opportunities. I also plan to travel to different bateys and churches with our local paster, holding several English classes a week. I am so excited about this upcoming opportunity and cannot wait to see what God has in store for me. The Dominican Republic is my second home, and I hope you all can enjoy this journey with me!
