Hi there — My friends and I are raising funds to support a local family who is in desperate need of housing security. Mayra, Jose, and their 13-year-old Alex arrived in the US in November of last year. They are having a very difficult time finding gig work that does not require work permits. They were able to secure an apartment in North Denver for $1,500/mo based on a proof of work letter Jose received from a contractor. Since then, the contractor tells them that there is no work, and they are unable to make ends meet and pay for their apartment. They likely do not not qualify for government protections from evictions.
Our goal is to raise money to cover up to two months rent through March, allowing them a short runway to continue looking for work and to get their son to and from school in Aurora each day. Gig work is very hard to come by in the winter in Colorado, and more things may become available with the warmer weather in April & May.
They are also seeking legal support/advice to determine why their ICE case #s are not currently showing up in the online system. They need to update their address, change the court date location, apply for asylum, etc. but have been unable to do so without being able to access their case numbers online. We verified their hard copy paper documents w/ case numbers. Legal help is out of reach as it is very expensive to get a consultation.
Thank you so much for any support you can offer. Short-term housing/shelters in motels across town have term limits and are releasing families onto the street in frigid temperatures without housing due to lack of rooms, and new families are arriving every day.

Thank you!
