Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a fundraiser I’m helping with — it’s for 40 newly arrived families from Gaza who are resettling in Toronto right now.
The Palestinian Youth Movement in Toronto is organizing a community donation drive to help these families get basic household items that aren’t covered by government support — things like microwaves, cookware, mattresses, kettles, and other essentials to help them settle into their new homes.
I wanted to contribute in a small way by setting up this campaign to make it easier for friends and family to support this initiative as well. All funds will go toward buying household items in bulk to keep costs low. I’ll keep everyone updated with receipts and photos so you can see exactly where the money is going. I'm currently also working towards emailing Ikea and a few other similar retailers to see if they can provide discounts for bulk orders for a good cause.
I know a lot of us have been looking for ways to help meaningfully — this felt like one tangible way to do so. Any amount helps, even just sharing this with someone else.
This is my first ever gofundme campaign - so I hope I'm doing it right!
According to my calculations (you can see in the update I've shared) - we'll probably need about 20-25K CAD to fund the whole drive, but I'm just setting a lofty goal of 10K for now - and let's see how things go.
Thanks so much
Lamana
