The Context

I feel, and I'm sure that many of you reading this will agree, that many of the ways that we (humanity) have been living are unsustainable and illogical. Many of the systems and structures that we have in place are leading to the degradation of health and integrity on multiple levels. These include health of individuals, communities, and the environments in which we exist and find the resources that are essential for our own survival (as well as all the other beings with which we coexist).

It is important, yet potentially challenging, to acknowledge the real, natural system we are a part of in it’s wholeness.

The system I am talking about is that which includes every person, animal, plant and all natural phenomena on this earth.

Modern capitalist, consumerist, colonialist structures were not created with the intention of wholistically supporting or nourishing the majority of people or with the consideration of sustaining the wider system that we are a part of.

These systems run on exploitation, and thrive by keeping people in a state of lack, addiction and desperation.

It is quite clear that we cannot (and don’t want to) continue with many of the ways of doing things that we have chosen.

It is also quite clear, in some places more than others, that there is a transformation happening. A transformation of mindset, values, and action.

There are many change-makers doing amazing things. Wonderful people with passion and energy, discovering new (and rediscovering the old) ways of doing things and sharing their nourishment, with love.

The Weave is a place for sharing and discovering these things, things that I call nourishing culture.

The Weave is a network, directory and map of all of the cultural offerings that align with the values of nourishing true health and freedom.

The Weave is a way for people to find the resources for better ways of living.

A way for people to discover solutions and ways of living that can help them to live in integrity and joy.

The Weave is both a map and directory of nourishing cultural offerings & organisations (culture = the things that humans do).

The Weave aims to support organisations that are charitable / donation based / not for profit / community run / grass-roots and that offer community & nourishment for free or on a participation, donation or sliding scale basis. The directory will also include a sliding scale for its contributors, for offerings that are free to access it will be free to be included, for offerings that generate an income for its creators (as a business), it will require a low cost membership fee.

Some situations I see this service being helpful in are -

- Imagine a map of all of the wonderful things going on around you that you never knew existed “right under your nose!”. This would bring your area to life and change your life drastically, especially if you experience isolation in a city.

- Imagine arriving in a new place and knowing exactly where to find the nourishment you seek or never knew was vital to an enhanced sense of joy, meaning and satisfaction.

- Imagine you have a great idea for an offering for your community and simply require a platform to share this and find collaborators, resources and fellow changemakers.

The main categories included so far are as follows

Togetherness = events & celebrations

Arts = all things art and creativity

Mind opening = things that offer new ways of seeing or transformative ideas

Natural world = all things to do with land, plants, food and natural phenomena

Advice, Education & Activism = legal, interpersonal skills or resources for living in / changing society

Spiritual Practice = Various hubs or groups relating to exploration of spirituality, this is quite vast and varied.

Skills close to source = learning to be self sufficient or create the things we use day to day with our own hands

Well-being = therapies, guidance or assistance for looking after our bodies and minds

The Weave is a place for wisdom of the old ways that really work

A place for sharing and finding joy, meaning and purpose

For finding tribe

For learning

For discovering something new about yourself

As humans we have needs, to connect with others, to know and be known, to express ourselves, to nourish our bodies with good natural food and clean water,

The era of our needs and the resources of the environments we depend on being exploited for the profit of a few is over

We have the power to decide where we put our work, our money and how we spend our time

Our lives are our creation

What will The Weave look like?

On our social media and In the gallery of this fundraiser you can see our concept art for the user interface of the Weave Map and Directory. It will have colour coded markers on the map which will signify which category the offering falls into. If it is in more than one category it will have more than one colour on the marker. Through the map you will be able to find all the information for the offerings. Social media sites, websites, an address and a brief explanation of what the offering is.

Where we are at so far / why a fundraiser?

Up until now I have been working on this project alone, getting clear on the mission, forming the concept, creating a proof of concept of the directory, creating artworks for sharing the message and creating a bank (list) of organisations and offerings that align with the ethos and mission. However I must mention how helpful conversations with inspiring and intelligent friends have been.

Recently, by the beauty of serendipity, I met Jonathon, a kindred spirit, impressive person and potential collaborator. He has created an amazing thing called FrogMap. It is a free to use map with markers for all fresh water springs, ancient woodlands and other natural and ancient phenomena.

Jonathon has a wealth of experience in digital map making and web development skills. He is able to make the directory and the map! He has offered a certain amount of work as a gift which is amazing. However, In order to complete the first official version of the Weave Directory and Map (rather than a proof of concept) I am starting this fundraiser to pay Jonathon for the work that is necessary for the The Weave Version 1 to be usable and accessible to all by the end of January.

With these funds we will not need to rely on google services to offer our service to all.

About the Founder

My name is Séamus, I was born and raised in London, a cauldron of nightmares and dreams.

I am passionate about creating and supporting culture that serves the people that are part of it and places that hold it.

I see culture as anything that humans do. It can be anything from the everyday decisions like where we source and how we prepare our food, to the spectacular once in a lifetime occurrences like how we deal with the death of our parents or welcome our children into the world. It is clear to me that us as individuals and us as communities have the power to shape reality by deciding what culture we create and take part in.

Through the internet, travel and meeting people from all over the world in England’s capital, I have seen some of the vastness of culture that humanity has to offer. It is obvious that some ways are more sustainable than others. It seems to me that usually people use the things that are handed to them by the structures around them. However through the kindness and generosity of others, new ways can be shared and whole ways of life can be unlocked for the individual.
