Help Us Honour the Legacy of Edward “Eddie” Carvery and Protect Africville’s History!

Hello, my name is Edward Leo Carvery III, the grandson and namesake of the legendary Africville activist Eddie Carvery.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news that my grandfather’s trailer, where it stood for over 55 year, was removed on Easter Sunday. This came as a complete shock to our family. Not only because of the sacred significance of the holiday, and the fact that it happened just weeks after we laid him to rest, but also because this decision was made without any communication to us.

My grandfather’s trailer was never just a structure. It was a symbol; a living protest site, a beacon of hope, and a powerful reminder that what was taken from us is still worth fighting for. It stood on the land of Africville, representing resilience, truth, and justice for our people.

Today, my father, Edward Leo Carvery II, and I along with our family have taken a stand on the very land where his trailer once stood. We are committed to continuing his fight.

However, this has come at a cost. Between the time we took off work while my grandfather was in the hospital, and now dedicating ourselves to continuing his fight for justice, our financial resources are running out. Like many families, we are simply working-class people doing our best to get by. I am also a father have a family who depends on me, and it is only because of them that I am reaching out for help today.

Your support will go directly toward helping us cover basic living expenses. Ensuring our family can endure while we stand our ground. Any additional funds will help us organize a community barbecue during a peaceful sit-in, so those who wish to support in person can come together in unity.

What has happened is more than just a personal loss. It has reopened deep wounds. The same kinds of actions once used to destroy the community of Africville have been repeated, this time targeting the legacy of the very man who refused to leave, who was willing to lay down his life for his people and his home.

My grandfather inspired people around the world through his unwavering resilience and commitment to justice. He left behind a legacy that calls on all of us to stand together in the face of wrongdoing.

Now, we are asking you to stand with us.
Help us continue his fight. Help us restore what was taken. Help us bring his trailer back to its rightful place; on the land of Africville.

With gratitude and hope,
Eddy Carvery III
