Baker Falls venue in NYC needs help to square up with folks starting with artists and our wonderful team after a year-long struggle to build our community and stay open.
We might lose our space due to a weird 3-way combo of the landlord passing away, foreclosure on their estate, and an unexpected lease clause which could cancel our lease with a new owner...if this happens, no other performance venue would probably be able to operate at 192 Allen Street as the commercial space would be redeveloped...
But this craziness could lead to another opportunity for us...with extra funds raised, we can clear some back debt and have the rare opportunity to move the Baker Falls liquor license to a new location in the neighborhood OR if we can hold on at this location long enough, there is a slight possibility a new owner down the road could allow us to stay.
Because we will get the funds in real time (from what we understand about GoFundMe) your generosity will go directly to folks in this order:
First) artist debt all PAID up! What a relief.
2nd) 20K next to pay loans from the team and keep the lights on.
3rd) 20K to keep the insurance active, so we dont lose the farm.
4th) Good faith effort to landlord.
5th) 100K (+) other debts from build-out, vendors, operations, legal fees, landlord, etc.
We are really in an emergency situation here and need the first 65K raised very very quickly, so please spread the word and tell anyone who loves the arts and live performances about this page.
In the short time we have been open, we have supported and nurtured 3 very special unique scenes in no particular order:
Torture Tuesdays: Torture and the Desert Spiders Solo Residency with the greatest emerging bands in stripped down sets.
Idiot's Hour: the Manhattan home of the avant-garde Downtown Clown scene that we saw bubbling up and wanted to give a recidency stage.
Anti-Folk Anti-Hoot ReBoot: gave a new home to the East Village's own indie sub-genre which was started over 40 years ago and inspiring a new generation to get up on stage in a safe space.
But we also want to shed light on ALL the amazing bands, performance artists, clowns, spoken word, drag, experimental acts, dance parties and folks we thought were just good and weird enough for our curated vibe at Baker Falls.
Our philosophy was to get everyone off their screens and meet friends and strangers in our strange little decrepit town in the woods with a great sound system. We feel like we failed you and are very aware of what we did wrong...but we feel we have given a lot over the years to the community, and we are asking for donations to: get people paid, keep our doors open as long as possible, take the sting out of the losses and maybe grow into a nice ripe old age if that is what the universe wants us to do.
We love everyone who has ever walked in our doors and thank you for all the Baker Falls love,
Nick, Juan and the rest of the Baker Falls family.
P.S. You can't possibly understand how much it means to us that you would like to help us, please stay tuned for updates and subscribe to our Dispatch newsletter at www.BakerFalls.com as we figure out this crazy, scarry but fun mess of of a town...
No AI used in this, so hopefully we get to tell our story on our terms and not "enhanced"
*we hope to make your kindness up to you somehow, but currently no giveaways, or returns on investment are offered in exchange for any donations made to this GoFundMe. The owners literally mortgaged the farm to open this place, and are in serious financial trouble so we are immensely appreciative of any donations here so we can get people paid.
