I am Amir from Gaza, 20 years old. I belong to an ambitious family that was “happy” before the start of the insane war on Gaza. We consist of four boys, a girl, my mother, and my father. The day before this war began, we owned a house that my father had worked his whole life to build. When my brothers grew up, they established a showroom for renting and selling wedding dresses, which had been their dream for years since they were in high school. It became one of the largest centers in Gaza City in this field. My brothers had already married and started their lives from scratch, while I had begun my university journey at the College of Business Administration in English at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, while working in parallel at my family center. After completing the first of four years at university, I had no idea that this war would come overnight and destroy all our dreams, our lives, our ambitions, and everything we owned. Just one week after it began, we were forced to leave the house under the insane shelling and missiles and the constant threats to evacuate. We left the house, leaving everything behind: the house, the showroom, and all its merchandise. We left. without knowing our destination

It was a journey into the unknown, amidst the sounds of shells and missiles, and through the uninhabited and destroyed streets. We finally reached Rafah, in the home of a person who had opened his home to the displaced. My three sisters, their wives, my sister, my mother, and my father were there. Every day passed without a source of income in a place we didn't know very well. We were only thinking about how to get through the day and survive. My father's health began to deteriorate due to the lack of necessary medications. He is 63 years old and has suffered from diabetes for a long time. However, he did not last long in these conditions, which lacked the most basic necessities of life and treatment. One night, he had a heart attack, and there was no ambulance or even a car to transport him to the hospital late at night, under the constant threat of missiles and shells everywhere. He lost his life that night, and we buried him in Rafah. We had no choice but to escape by any means before losing more of my family's lives. We crossed the border into Egypt during a period when aid was provided to us, allowing us to cross into Egypt in inhumane conditions and under bombardment. After spending more than seven months in the war, during which I lost my father and we lost our only source of income and our home, we have been in Egypt for more than a year without a source of income, given the high rental prices for apartments. My educational journey has been on hold for more than a year and a half due to the destruction of everything in the Gaza Strip and the lack of a source of income to pay for the tuition fees of a new university in Cairo. I will be registered as a new student, so the first year I spent in Gaza will not be counted for me. However, I have not reached this stage because I do not have a source of income to pay the tuition fees.

Here I was full of energy and working day and night between my university studies and my work at my family center in order to achieve my dreams and great ambitions, but I still had hope that there would be light coming through the window after all this darkness.
