I am a single mother of two young children, whose first language is Swahili. My family and I have experienced a refugee camp, and I now strive to provide better lives for my daughters. They are both thriving in elementary school, both academically and socially, and I would like to continue to set them up for success.
Despite working full-time, I cannot afford the rent and am being evicted at the end of the month. Before my young daughters and I leave, I must pay September's rent and the necessary bills (i.e. electrical) so that I am caught up prior to eviction. If I am unable to pay these expenses prior to September 30th, there will be significant consequences, including preventing me from renting in Burlington again.
Without any help, I contacted one of the local shelters and have been proactively working with them. My hope is for my daughters and I to move into a local shelter, save money, get connected with resources and subsidized housing, and soon move my family into stable, sustainable, safe housing.
