My niece, Lauren, was left stranded 15 miles from home after an overnight shift with refrigerated groceries for her 8-year-old daughter.

She dialed 911 only to discover her estranged husband had taken the family car, despite a written agreement that she use it during their separation.

It has been an extremely difficult 10 months for Lauren, who gathered the courage earlier this year to leave this abusive relationship.

Without a vehicle, mundane tasks we take for granted — going to work, getting her daughter to school, and running errands — have become even more challenging for this hard-working single mom.

To make matters worse, she’s now facing hefty legal fees as she fights to protect her family and secure a stable future for her kids.

Her attorney took the $1,200 retainer she was able to scrape together but didn’t even file her divorce petition.
