Hello, my name is Gabrielle Argaw. I am 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. Recently, I learned that 14 million children in the US live in food-insecure households. This means about 10 million or 13.7% of children and families are living in poverty and starvation. Then I researched more to see if my community was struggling too. That's when I learned that in New Jersey, 1.1 million people are food insecure, including over 270,000 children, and the rate only increases yearly. That's when it clicked. I should be doing something to help feed the families in my area. That is how I got the idea to start “The Giving Project,” where I fundraise money to buy food and personally take it to food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters near me. Through this passion project, I am doing my part to try and give as much as I can to those who need it. However, it doesn’t have to only be me; by donating to my cause, your kindness today can change someone’s tomorrow.
