The ongoing Congolese genocide has taken millions of lives over the years, and today, that number continues to rise. Indigenous Congolese communities are facing ethnic cleansing, forced starvation, environmental destruction, exploitation, sexual assault, mass displacement, preventable disease, and being dehumanized in media.

Project 896, founded by Intersectional Activist Matthew Johnson, plans to combat the impacts of forced starvation, exploitation, and environmental destruction in the DRC by restoring trees in the area and planting food, thereby reducing the need for these people to be completely reliant on the donations of others. Working alongside Bel Avenir, a humanitarian support organization on the ground in the DRC, we have gained the consent and support of the villages we intend to send aid to in the North Kivu region of the DRC.

A major part of the Congolese genocide that is often overlooked is the environmental disasters that come with all genocides. By attempting to restore part of the Congo Basin, we will be combating the climate crisis while also sending aid to the intertwined humanitarian crisis in the DRC. With your donation, we can achieve our goal of helping these individuals and the planet simultaneously. No donation is too small, as these people will need as much help as possible as quickly as possible.

The Congolese people are not helpless or too "underdeveloped" to sustain and support themselves; they are simply victims of exploitation by colonial powers, and we must band together to save the lives of innocent people.
