Indigenous Congolese communities are facing ethnic cleansing, forced starvation, environmental destruction, exploitation, sexual assault, mass displacement, preventable disease, and being dehumanized in media.

<div>Project 896, founded by Intersectional Activist Matthew Johnson, plans to combat the impacts of forced starvation, exploitation, and environmental destruction in the DRC by restoring trees in the area and planting food, thereby reducing the need for these people to be completely reliant on the donations of others. Working alongside Bel Avenir, a humanitarian support organization on the ground in the DRC, we have gained the consent and support of the villages we intend to send aid to in the North Kivu region of the DRC.

<div>A major part of the Congolese genocide that is often overlooked is the environmental disasters that come with all genocides. By attempting to restore part of the Congo Basin, we will be combating the climate crisis while also sending aid to the intertwined humanitarian crisis in the DRC. No donation is too small, as these people will need as much help as possible as quickly as possible.
