Hello Friends, Family and Supporters,

My name is Isabella Awat, and I’m reaching out on behalf of Wings for Dignity, a refugee-led, non-profit organization operating in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement in Kenya. As a co-founder and refugee with lived experience, I’m passionate about building sustainable solutions that restore dignity and foster independence among girls and young women.

Our mission began by addressing period poverty, which continues to keep many girls out of school due to the lack of menstrual hygiene products. However, we’ve since expanded our approach to create lasting change through entrepreneurship and agriculture offering young women and girls not only dignity but also the means to shape their own futures.

Due to recent funding cuts, refugees in Kakuma are now experiencing severe food shortages and water scarcity. This has deepened the impact of period poverty and widened gender education gap and inequality, as families must prioritize basic survival over education and menstrual care.

That’s why we’re raising funds to:

Provide menstrual hygiene kits and materials for reusable sanitary pads, helping girls stay in school consistently.

Empower women with skills in soap-making, tailoring, and agricultural practices, offering them tools to start small businesses and generate sustainable income.

Launch small-scale urban gardening and permaculture training, especially for women-headed households, to improve nutrition, increase self-reliance and reduce dependency on food aid.

Support mentorship and community workshops focused on reproductive health, menstrual education and financial literacy.
