My name is Eilee Reed. I am a BSA Scout with Troop 2019 in Grafton, Massachusetts working on my approved Eagle Scout Project. I am writing to you today to request a donation of money to help complete the project.

My project is a StoryWalk on the grounds of Burgess Elementary School in Sturbridge. A StoryWalk is a series of permanent sign posts displaying pages of a picture book, set up along a path so you read the book as you walk the path. StoryWalk was created in 2007 in Montpellier, Vermont, and has become popular with families, schools, and libraries as a way of encouraging literacy and outdoor activity.

This project means a lot to be because I live in Sturbridge and attended Burgess Elementary School. The school had a huge impact on my life, and it is because of this school that I am planning to get a degree in Art Education and become an elementary art teacher. This project is my way of giving back to the school and the community.

The StoryWalk will be installed along an already existing paved path, with an expected installation date of Summer 2025. I am working with the school’s administration on final design and placement. I am also working with the school librarians to select books.

The approximate full cost of the project is $4,140. The school has already given their permission and is very excited about the project. This project has also been approved by the local BSA Council.

All donations will be used for this project and the benefit of Burgess Elementary School.
