Cindy's Surgery Recovery

Donation protected
Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month means so much more than knowing someone who's had breast cancer. Recently, my mom was diagnosed with the BRCA gene. Being diagnosed with the BRCA gene basically means that she has a mutation in either her BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, which are tumor-suppressing genes. So what this means is that her chances of getting breast cancer go from about a 12% chance to an 85% chance of getting it. Also, her chance of getting uterine cancer goes from a 1% chance to a 46% chance of getting it. The only way to stop the BRCA gene is by getting a hysterectomy and a double mastectomy. My mom has already done the first portion and gotten the hysterectomy. Today, she went in for surgery to get a double mastectomy. This is by far the biggest surgery my mom's ever gone in for. Due to the surgery being such a big one, she will be looking at having a decent amount of unpaid time off for recovery. Everyone who knows my mom, Cindy, knows that she's a loyal and hard worker. Even when my sisters and I were little, anytime she was feeling sick or unwell, she would power through her workday, so being off to recover is going to be hard for her. With it being unpaid time off, it will be even harder. She will be looking at quite a few extra added expenses between medical and home bills and anything else she may need to adjust after her surgery. She doesn't know that we are doing this for her, but we know that she would be greatly appreciative of any amount you could donate to help. Thank you!
