Hi, my name is Brooke Wisdom, a second year student and track athlete at the University of St. Thomas. I’m raising funds for a mission trip this summer to the Grace Girls Home in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. I’ll be traveling with Dr. Gunaratnam and his family to support the incredible work being done for young girls and women who have been orphaned or abandoned and now call Grace Girls Home their safe haven. This organization is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering these girls through access to education, physical activity, emotional support, and the development of strong, healthy relationships. Their goal is not only to provide shelter, but to instill confidence, resilience, and a path toward a bright, independent future.

During my time there, I will be helping to create and implement an age-appropriate education program that focuses on personal health, self-awareness, and emotional well-being. The curriculum will include lessons on understanding their bodies, forming respectful relationships, and developing a positive sense of identity and self-worth. These are vital tools that many of us take for granted, but which can make a life-changing difference for girls growing up in challenging circumstances. In addition to this, I will also have the opportunity to use my background in track and field to help start a track training program for the girls, giving them a new outlet for building discipline, teamwork, confidence, and joy through the sport.

This trip is deeply personal to me. I feel called to serve, to connect, and to lead with compassion.
