My dear friend, a person of incredible strength and quiet dignity, is facing a challenge that no one should have to endure alone. She is the kind of person who is always the first to help others but the last to ask for it herself, which is why it took a lot of convincing for me to create this fundraiser.

My friend, whom I'll call "Bambi," was recently diagnosed with a form of skin cancer. After undergoing a stem cell transplant, she's facing a long recovery that will keep her in the hospital for several weeks and then in long-term care away from home for a few months. While she anticipated being unable to work during this time, we recently discovered that her critical care insurance will not provide the benefits she anticipated. She's always been a private person, which is why we're using a nickname, and she doesn't want to burden her family, especially since several of them have already been an incredible source of support—even to the extent of being her donor.

I've never made a request like this, but I believe in the compassion of people who are part of my circle. If you've ever had a loved one who you were willing to do anything for, then you understand what this means to me. My goal is to raise $15,000 to assist with out-of-pocket medical expenses and the daily living costs she'll continue to have during her recovery.
