Support Baby Bellamy Through Surgery & Recovery

Hi everyone,

We’re reaching out on behalf of our brother Jessie Martinez, his wife Mercedes ("Cedes"), and their newborn son Bellamy — a beautiful and strong baby who has already been through more than most of us could imagine.

Bellamy was born with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) and a complex heart defect known as Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD). As if that weren’t enough, he was also diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease, a condition that affects the colon and requires surgical intervention.

He’s been in the Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs for 65 days, now in Denver for the last week! Tomorrow morning at 7:45 AM, Bellamy will undergo surgery to place a temporary stoma, which will require him to have a colostomy bag for the next few months. Later, he’ll return for a second surgery to perform the pull-through procedure and reverse the colostomy.

After that, Bellamy still faces open-heart surgery to repair the AVSD — another major surgery that will require a long recovery and continued hospital care.

Jessie and Mercedes live in Pueblo, Colorado, and have been driving back and forth to Colorado Springs and Denver to manage their home while staying by Bellamy’s side in the hospital. Jessie is the family’s main provider, and Cedes hasn’t left Bellamy's side. Jessie wants to take time off work to be there for his son during these surgeries and recovery — but that means going without income during a time when expenses are piling up.

Between gas, medical costs, hospital meals, and daily living expenses, this young family is doing everything they can to hold on — but they need help.
