Donate to Aiden's Eagle Scout Project for Rye Synagogue
Hi Everyone,
My name is Aiden Harvey. I am a Life Scout in Rye Troop 2, a member of the Order of the Arrow Scouting Honor Society. I have been to the National Jamboree in West Virginia, the World Jamboree in South Korea, the Philmont High Adventure Base in New Mexico, and the National Seabase in the Virgin Islands. I have 42 Merit Badges, 104 nights of camping, and 201 miles of hiking. I am also a Tier 1 AAA Hockey Player and Lifeguard with 1 confirmed save in Long Island Sound.
I am a student in the Leadership Academy at Rye High School in Rye, New York.
Volunteer service is important to me. I am working on my Eagle Scout Project and I need your help. I am building a Gaga Pit for the children and congregants of the Community Synagogue of Rye, NY.
What is a Gaga Pit? A "Gaga Pit" is the playing field for the game of Gaga Ball, a sport similar to dodgeball but with a focus on hitting opponents below the knees. You can only use your hands to hit the ball at an opponent; you can aim directly at them or bank it off a wall, and if it hits them on the legs, they are tagged out. The last person in the pit wins. It's typically an enclosed area, usually an octagon or hexagon, with walls that can be made of various materials like wood, metal, or plastic. The surface can be smooth dirt, turf, sand, or a rubberized material.
With the help of volunteers from my fellow Scouts, family, and friends, I have already cleared a 40' x 40' area in the back of the Synagogue that was covered in dense foliage and trees. I smoothed the playing surface area and made it flat, and I covered it with "Item 4," which is crushed cement that will serve as the base and walkway for the Gaga Pit. 40 yards of Item 4 was a donation I previously received from a landscaping company.
I would like your help and support for my project by raising funds for the wood walls and the brackets with hardware.
24-2x10x8ft pressure treated boards
8-30" high powder coated steel corner brackets + miscellaneous screws and hardware.
These items will come to approximately $1100-1200.
Thank you for donating to help me purchase these items to complete my project for the benefit of the children and congregants of the Community Synagogue of Rye.
Yours in Scouting,
Aiden Harvey
