My name is Shauna, and I’m reaching out for help during one of the most difficult times my family has ever faced. My incredible bonus dad, Nate, was tragically T-boned by a semi-truck on Monday, September 30th. The driver of the truck failed to stop at a 4-way stop intersection, and the impact left Nate in rough shape.
He was rushed to the ICU at Region One Trauma Hospital in Memphis, TN, where we learned the extent of his injuries: a severe hangman’s break in his neck, nine broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade, a small tear in his spleen causing internal bleeding, and a scrape on his aortic artery. Nate underwent surgery on Wednesday to have a Halo brace placed, which he’ll have to wear for the next 3-4 months.
Their lives have been completely turned upside down. Nate is the sole provider for him and my mom, as my mom stays home to take care of their homestead. On top of this, they’ve been working tirelessly to renovate and reopen their camping retreat and finish building their home – projects that are now at a standstill. Nate works in the fields for wind turbines, but he won’t be able to return to work for months. He can’t drive or even perform basic tasks, leaving them without income and facing mounting bills.
We are beyond grateful that Nate survived and isn’t paralyzed, but his road to recovery is long, and we don’t know what the future holds in terms of long-term health issues. If you can donate, even just $1, it would mean the world to our family. Every bit helps as we try to navigate this heartbreaking and uncertain time.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, prayers, and support.
