Our sweet Adrianna was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in April 2015. She is a bright, strong, and loving girl who continues to inspire everyone around her with courage and determination.
In September 2025, Adrianna was hospitalized with Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) Syndrome. SMA Syndrome can cause severe abdominal pain and weight loss, but thankfully, it is reversible with healthy weight gain. Because Adrianna’s SMA made it nearly impossible for her to tolerate her formula or food by mouth, her doctors recommended a temporary PICC line in her left bicep to provide Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) – feeding her through her bloodstream to help her gain weight safely. While this was the best option for her recovery, it raised the risk of infection.
On Monday, October 20th, Adrianna developed a 102.8° fever and was immediately transported to the emergency room and admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Kaiser Roseville Hospital. On October 22nd, she was diagnosed with septic shock. Adrianna began to decline rapidly, and by Thursday, October 23rd at 4:30 a.m., the doctors made the decision to intubate her to help her breathe and stabilize her body. Tests revealed that bacteria from her intestines had entered her bloodstream. Because TPN essentially acts as a “fertilizer” for bacteria, her PICC line had to be removed, and a temporary line was placed in her jugular vein while she was intubated.
Thankfully, Adrianna is showing incredible progress. Her blood work continues to show NO new bacterial growth, and she is fighting hard every single day.
This year has been incredibly difficult for Adrianna and our family. Since July, she has been hospitalized three times – including a 2.5-week stay for RSV, a 17-day stay in October for gastrointestinal issues, and now, her ongoing fight against sepsis in the PICU. She has already been hospitalized for more than a week and is expected to remain hospitalized for at least 2-4 more weeks.
We are asking for help to cover Adrianna’s medical expenses and to support our family at this time. Adrianna’s Mom and Dad are unable to work while Adrianna is in the hospital, and any donation, big or small, will go directly toward her care and her family’s essential needs during her recovery.
Adrianna is the strongest little warrior, fighting battles most of us could never imagine. What comes easily for others takes her immense strength and perseverance every single day. We are beyond grateful for the love, prayers, and support received from family, friends, and our community. Your kindness helps us stay strong for Adrianna as she continues her journey toward healing.
From the bottom of our hearts – thank you.
Love, Adrianna, Kristin, and Daniel Padovan
