The Overnite Warming Center (OWC) of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of DeKalb (UUCD) is preparing to open it’s doors to assist our unhoused and food insecure neighbors. We will be open 5p-8a, seven days of the week from Jan 3, 2026 thru March 15, 2026. Offerings include a warm space to sleep, a hot evening meal, breakfast and sack lunch to provide nourishment throughout the day. Folks are welcome to come just for the evening meal if they need assistance with food or need a warm space to be for a bit. No income requirements. The OWC will also invite representatives from area community services in to assist with the connection of services that are vital to our guests long term stability.
While we are able to get some items donated, funds secured thru this Go Fund Me avenue will be used to off-set food and supply expenses, personal care products, cots, pillows, some transportation costs, laundry and other needs that may arise. The OWC is a 501c3.
We are also recruiting volunteers who may be able to provide meals as well as volunteers to staff 4 hr shifts each day. Volunteers wanting to provide shift coverage will need to attend a 4hr training on Sat, Dec 6, 2026 from 9a-1p. If interested in attending the training, please email [email redacted] to rsvp so we have adequate materials available. For further questions please email [email redacted]
