Hello! I'm Stephanie, the mother of Mason Thorr.
Mason is 18 and in his senior year of high school. Mason has enjoyed playing many sports since his youth days, he tried baseball and soccer and likes basketball, but he LOVES football. He currently has a few offers to play at the next level in college which is what he has worked for since the first time he put on a set of pads.
Mason has overcome many obstacles in his 18 years of life; he was a premature infant and survived cancer as a toddler. The latest battle he is facing is his left meniscus. His junior year he suffered an injury causing a subtle radial tear of his left meniscus. However, he also has chronic effects from his chemotherapy (Vincristine) that cause his chronic joint pain, specifically in his knees he has patella alta, and Hoffa fat pad impingement, as well as patellofemoral maltracking.
These are chronic conditions that cause Mason a great deal of pain and discomfort. We have recently been approached with a solution that could provide a great deal of relief. However, our insurance won't cover the cost of treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a procedure used to stimulate the body's own healing process in damaged tissues by using your own blood components. This process involves taking a blood sample and placing in in a centrifuge to separate platelets, white blood cells, red blood cells and plasma. This concentration is then delivered via injection directly into the site of injury to promote and jumpstart healing.
We feel like this is the best option for Mason to have a successful college career and most importantly be pain free. Each injection is $600 with a $300 discount for two body parts at one visit. So, each visit would be $900 for both knees. We were told to expect more than one visit to be back to total functionality.
