After forty years of dedicated service to our town, the flags that line Main and Hollis Streets must be replaced. Scout Troop 3, which puts up, takes down and maintains all the flags and poles, is working in conjunction with the 250th Anniversary Celebration & Commemoration Committee and the Groton Woman’s Club to raise funds for this huge endeavor. We would like to have the new flag systems in place for the 250th celebration of the Declaration of Independence and our country next year in 2026
The Avenue of Flags began with an idea from the Woman’s Club in 1985, with help from the American Legion & Auxiliary, VFW & Auxiliary, the Boys and Girls Scouts, the Men’s Club, and the Boosters Club. The Boy Scouts of Troop 3 have been caring for and flying the flags for Main Street over the decades since. The poles will be replaced so that the new flags will have the strength they need for the next forty-fifty years. People may donate an entire flag set with the pole for $170.00 or contribute any amount to help purchase new flags and poles. Donations may be made in someone’s honor, if desired, as was done forty years ago.
This site is for families, businesses, civic groups, and individuals to come together to help fund our campaign for the new flags. Contributions may also be made to this funding site or by mailing a check to Groton Woman’s Club, Post Office Box 798, Groton, MA 01450.
