Meet Abby, a 10-year-old retired research beagle who was originally adopted 9 years ago. She was surrendered to us around Thanksgiving 2024 after her adopter could no longer care for her and through no fault of her own, Abby found herself in need of a new home. Abby is an absolute sweetheart – housebroken, playful, affectionate, and like a typical beagle…loves food (especially salmon)! However, Abby’s health has been a serious concern. When she came to us, her health records were incomplete and it turned out she hadn’t been to a vet in 7 years. While Abby’s vaccinations were up-to-date, her health was far from perfect.
Abby has been battling chronic ear infections, painful masses in her ear canals, and swollen lymph nodes. Despite a lengthy course of treatments, Abby’s condition did not improve, leading to a referral to a Surgical Specialist. A recent CT scan showed narrowed ear canals, but thankfully they remain open, which is a positive sign. She has also undergone a biopsy, and we’re happy to report that the results are good – there’s no cancer in her ear canals! The biopsy showed that the masses are inflammatory in nature, but due to the changes, there is concern that they could progress into adenomas or adenocarcinomas in the future.
As a result, Abby will require a bilateral ear surgery: Total Ear Canal Ablations (TECA) and Lateral Bulla Osteotomies. These surgeries are crucial to prevent further complications as well as pain relief and will be performed in 2 stages, with one ear being done at each surgery.
We are raising funds to cover Abby’s surgery, ongoing medications, and follow-up treatments. Your donation will directly contribute to the cost of Abby’s surgeries and help ensure that she can finally have the pain-free life she deserves. Abby is sweet, resilient, and ready to move forward with the love and care she’s always wanted.
Thank you so much for your support, and please share Abby’s story! Every bit helps.
