    Please help us raise funds for very badly needed repairs of the 65th Infantry Association clubhouse!  The Association was established eighty-five years ago in Puerto Rico in 1935.  Its founders were veterans who had served with the famous all-Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment, the only Hispanic-segregated unit in Army history.  The veterans of the 65th have served in three wars - World War I, World War II and the Korean War where they excelled in combat even earning the praise of Gen. Douglas MacArthur.   In 2016, the 65th Infantry Regiment, also known as "The Borinqueneers", was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, one of our highest civilian awards, for its contribution to this nation.

     Throughout the years, the Association has advocated on behalf of veterans, contributed to many charitable local causes and continued to educate and remind the public of the service of this great regiment. 

     Most of the members are Borinqueneers in their 80s and 90s but they also have veterans who served in other units and wars. With limited funds and an aging membership, the Association's Clubhouse has deteriorated over the years requiring much-needed repairs.  The ravages of Hurricane Maria added to the damages which included the need to fix the leaking roof, paint the building and do other necessary repairs (see list below). Although some money was raised thanks to donations from the community, the discovery of a rotting roof and structure with termites has brought on unforeseen additional expenses Their current goal is to raise an additional $15,000.  Fortunately, members of the Engineer Battalion, State Command of the Puerto Rico National Guard have volunteered to provide in-kind contributions of labor for many of the needed repairs which will help tremendously in this large-scale endeavor.

   I am the Producer/Director of the documentary film "The Borinqueneers" which chronicles the glorious history of the all-Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment.   I ask again for your support to help these veterans who need us now. NEEDED REPAIRS:

·         Termite damage on roof and interior of building, including wooden doorways.
·         Once repairs are made, an extermination service must be contracted to remove termites
·         Small elevator to second floor where meetings are held needs to be restored and repaired
·         Flooring needs to be replaced with cement
·         Electrical fixtures need to be replaced
·         Kitchen needs to updated
·         Bathroom needs to be updated
·         Peeling walls need to be repaired
·         New painting of exterior and interior of building
·         Leaking roof due to hurricane damage
·         New exterior sign needs to be installed

    ¡Ayúdenos a recaudar fondos para reparaciones urgentemente necesarias de la casa club de la Asociación de Retirados y Veteranos del 65ª de Infantería! La Asociación se estableció hace ochenta y cinco años en Puerto Rico en 1935.  Sus fundadores eran veteranos que habían servido en el famoso Regimiento 65.º de Infantería compuesta por puertorriqueños, la única unidad segregada por hispanos en la historia del Ejército.  Los veteranos del 65 han servido en las tres guerras: la Primera Guerra Mundial, la Segunda Guerra Mundial y la Guerra de Corea, donde se destacaron en combate, incluso ganándose los elogios del general Douglas MacArthur.  En el 2016, el Regimiento 65 de Infantería le fue concecido la Medalla de Oro del Congreso, una de las medallas civiles mas prestigiosas, por su contribución a esta nación

     A lo largo de los años, la Asociación ha defendido en nombre de los veteranos, contribuido a muchas causas caritativas locales y continúa educando y recordándole al público del servicio de este gran regimiento.

Los estragos del huracán María se sumaron a los daños que incluyeron la necesidad de reparar el techo con goteras, pintar el edificio y hacer otras reparaciones necesarias.  Aunque se han recaudado algunos fondos gracias a donativos por la comunidad, el descubrimiento de un techo y una estructura podrida dañada por comején ha generado gastos adicionales imprevistos.  Su objetivo actual es recaudar $ 15,000 adicionales.  Afortunadamente, miembros del Batallón de Ingenería del Comando Estatal de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico se han ofrecido como voluntarios para proporcionar contribuciones en especie de mano de obra para muchas de las reparaciones necesarias que ayudarán enormemente en este esfuerzo de gran escala.

REPARACIONES NECESITADAS:

·         Daño de comején en el techo y en el interior del edificio, incluyendo las puertas de madera.
·         Una vez que se realizen las reparaciones, se necesita contratar un servicio para exterminar el comején.
·         El pequeño ascensor al segundo piso donde se realizan las reuniones necesita restauración y reparación
·         El piso necesita ser reemplazado con cemento
·         Los accesorios eléctricos deben ser reemplazados
·         Cocina necesita modernizarse
·         El baño necesita modernizarse
·         Las paredes despegadas se tienen que reparar
·         Nueva pintura en el exterior y el interior del edificio
·         Goteras en el techo debido a daños causados ​​por huracanes
·         Nuevo rótulo exterior se debe instalar
