Place of Refuge Corp was born out of a deep burden to see families and individuals in Muskegon County find safety, stability, and hope. Too many in our community are experiencing housing insecurity — bouncing between shelters, couch-surfing, or facing the streets without a place to call home.

We believe no one should have to walk through that alone.

Our mission is simple but powerful: we exist to provide shelter, supportive services and compassionate care for individuals and families in need. We aim to create a safe haven where stability, dignity, and hope can be restored, empowering people to rebuild their lives.

Why We’re Raising Funds

We are raising $3000 to cover our nonprofit startup and outreach costs so we can begin serving our community even before we have a building. These funds will help us with:

• Essential administrative costs (banking, insurance, compliance)

• Community outreach programs like hygiene kits, food and coats, warm clothing and blankets for colder months

• Readiness funding to secure a building when the right space becomes available (deposit, utilities, and startup supplies)

Outreach What We Do (Without a Building)

While we prepare for a permanent shelter space, Place of Refuge Corp has committed to serving right now through:

• Host food and clothing giveaways to bless dozens of individuals and families in need.

• Provide coats, hats, and blankets to help prepare our community for the winter months.

• Build momentum through community drives, outreach events, and volunteer support.

So far we have served 42 individuals and families in need through our food and clothing giveaway! We are committed to increasing that number by doing more outreach events!

This is just the beginning. Place of Refuge Corp will one day open its own doors as a safe and welcoming shelter. But right now, every dollar raised brings us closer by building credibility, awareness, and a foundation of trust in our community.

This means that donations made during this pending period will be tax-deductible once our status is granted. We are committed to transparency and will keep all donors updated. All funds will be deposited directly into Place of Refuge’s nonprofit bank account with Bluevine. These funds will be used solely for our startup costs— legal filings and nonprofit operations—so we can begin serving families in Muskegon as soon as possible.
