Donate to the Royal Women's Hospital

Update April 2023:

Arlo miraculously made it home a few days before his supposed-to-be due date! After months in hospital we were SO relieved, ecastic and nervous to be home with him. We are happy to report that Arlo is healthy and thriving and keeping us (VERY) busy but our hearts are full.

Hi, we are Crystal and Allan, the proud parents of a beautiful baby named Arlo

Arlo was born very early, a tiny 25 weeker who over the past few months has shown incredible resilience and strength.

Our time in the NICU at The Royal Women's Hospital has certainly been a roller-coaster of challenges and triumphs. But during this experience, the best part of our day has been providing Kangaroo care (skin-to-skin) cuddles with our darling boy.

This practice has so many positive benefits for premature infants and parents. There are studies that show how Kangaroo care for preemies can stabilise heart rate, improve breathing patterns and oxygen saturation levels, reduce illness and infection. Kangaroo Care has also been found to promote parent/infant bonding, breastfeeding and even an early discharge from hospital.

To facilitate skin-to-skin, The Royal Women's Hospital provide very cosy recliner chairs available so parents can relax having essential time with their babies. HOWEVER there isn't always enough of these chairs available which means parents sometimes wait to cuddle their baby or sit in alternative uncomfortable chairs!

The hours we have spent doing kangaroo care with Arlo in these recliners have been among the most rewarding moments of our journey and a huge blessing.

So, we are hoping to get your support (in the way of a small donation) in order to purchase one of these wonderful recliners to donate to The Royal Women's Hospital. It is our wish that this chair would be available for another family in need for that special and crucial time spent with their baby.
