I’m reaching out with a heavy heart on behalf of my brother Nick and April to share that our sweetest Dom, a smart and strong 7 year old, has been diagnosed today with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). For the last couple of weeks Dominic has not been his active bubbly self. He was more fatigued than normal, feeling weak, not eating much, looking very pale, and bruising extremely easy. He was taken by emergency vehicle to the University of Iowa Hospital November 18th after a visit at his PCP showed very critical blood count levels. This devastating diagnosis has turned everyone’s world upside down. Dominic has received three blood transfusions today. Tomorrow’s plan is to place a port for chemo, take a bone marrow biopsy, and complete a spinal tap. One day at a time, but a lot to take in and try to understand for our little fighter. The doctors said they expect a stay of about 6 months for the first part of his treatment. April, Nick, and Dominic now face a long and difficult journey of treatments, hospital stays, and emotional challenges.

We are all doing everything we can to give Dom strength to fight this illness, but the financial burden of medical bills, treatments, and other unexpected costs will be overwhelming. To reduce stress and allow mom and dad to focus solely on supporting our sweet boy through this journey we are asking for any bit of help. Every donation will go directly toward Dominic’s medical care and support, for transportation, or housing as needed.

God works miracles and I know he will touch our baby boy and keep him protected during this fight.
