Hi everyone! My name is Sarina Krishnaswamy, and I’m a student at Virginia Tech currently spending the month of June volunteering at Dolphine Daycare in Arusha, Tanzania.

For the past two weeks, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with a group of bright, eager children between the ages of 2 and 5. Each day, I’ve watched them learn with so much enthusiasm. They practice numbers, fruits, months of the year, reading basics, and so many more topics.

While their passion for learning is inspiring, many of the children face serious challenges outside the classroom. For many, the meal they receive at the daycare is the only one they’ll eat all day. Their school supplies are worn down and they have broken pencils, torn notebooks, and missing essentials.

Before I leave in two weeks, I want to make a meaningful contribution to their daily lives. My goal is to provide:

1. Nutritious food to supplement their school meals

2. Hygiene items to support their health and comfort

3. New school supplies to support their learning

And, if funds allow, larger items that could help the daycare long-term

I’ve included a list of items I hope to purchase below, along with their estimated costs in USD. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a direct and immediate difference. I’ll begin by prioritizing food, followed by school and hygiene supplies, then any remaining funds will go toward bigger needs.
