August 23rd this year, Dolly Wood was born at just 28 weeks gestation, weighing a teeny tiny 1 pound 14 ounces.
She was delivered via emergency C section because she was distressed, had reduced movements, restricted growth and a failing placenta.
She was whisked away quickly to neonatal intensive care unit in Gloucester.
Dolly has had a very up and down rollercoaster journey, with episodes of sepsis and infection, slow growth, blood transfusions, lots of tests and at one point she got very very poorly.
She fought through and continues to be a trooper, just like her mumma and dadda! But, has struggled at times to thrive.
She has chronic lung disease and is still requiring some oxygen to help her lungs do their job.
On Friday 9th November Dolly was transferred to Kings College hospital in London for investigative tests on her liver as it’s not working as it should do.
Kings College is 3 hours away from home.
Mummy is staying in Ronald McDonald house so she can be close to Dolly but this means being away from her 21 month old son, step daughters, partner and family. Mum travels back once a week to see her family and Dad travels to Kings on the weekends for a day so Dolly isn’t left on her own for too long.
Dolly needs to stay in Kings for the foreseeable future to have investigative tests done as her liver function is still abnormal and at the moment the specialists don’t know why.
They’re hoping for a diagnosis soon but have no idea how long they will need to travel back and forth for.
As a friend of Dolly's parents, trying to find something productive in this situation proves rather difficult. Cake and tea delivery isn't an option with mum now being so far away!
I know I'm not the only one who would love to help in some way, and, this way, we can all help raise some money to take some of the financial strain away from this beautiful family, even if it means it goes towards train tickets, pot noodles, cake or coffee! Maybe even towards something special for them all, for when Dolly comes home.
Donations welcome, no matter how small!
Please share far and wide ♥️
