Our precious Bumpa ( Doug ) is battling a debilitating injury that has left him unable to walk for the time being .

Doug is nothing short of fun loving, hard working , and the giver of treats to all of his grandchildren. He’s a tender heart who lives for spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors and fishing .

On Saturday, July 9th, Dougs world unexpectedly turned upside down. In a fluke accident while trimming tree branches in his yard, he fell off a ladder and broke both his ankles and has many fractures in both feet. He was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital where he remains, undergoing 3 operations and many test and procedures and future surgeries to come. What his future holds as far as learning to walk again, rehabilitation, and how long all this make take is still very uncertain.

Due to the accident Doug is unable to work and will need an extensive amount of time to recover . This has been a tragic situation for the Nelson family and has created a huge financial burden.

Doug has worked for the post office for 38 years and is a retired Navy Vet. Unfortunately they do not offer a disability packages and he would be forced into early retirement.

Doug loves his career and would love to continue to work post recovery. So we created this page in hopes to ease the financial burdens ahead of him, help him through this difficult journey ahead of him, and to help make Doug’s dreams come true of returning to work in the future .
