DOC Band for Baby Nico

This is Nicholas the happiest most loving baby and the light of our lives. For being only 5 months old Nico has faced some challenges that no parent ever wishes there child has to go through. Nico was born unexpectedly on January 10, 2019, six weeks before his due date weighing 4lbs 8oz. On January 11, 2019 I (Andy) was able to hold him for the very first time in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) where he spent the first 8 days of his life. Those 8 days were the hardest most terrifying days of our lives. Nico has been a fighter from the very moment he was born and he is such a strong and happy little boy. Two months after he was born we noticed that one of Nico’s eyes didn’t seem to be opening all the way so concerned we took him to the pediatrician who noticed that his head was flat on one side so we were referred to a plastic surgeon, who noted the same flatness and the closing of his eye and told us that he has plagiocephaly (flatness on one side of the head) and Torticolis (stiffness in the neck). The stiffness in his neck prevented him from moving his head to the left causing him to spend too much time on his right ultimately flattening his head. Thankfully with physical therapy his Torticolis is almost completely gone but we need the DOC band (baby helmet) to correct the plagiocephaly. After the initial consultation two weeks ago we waited patiently to hear back from our insurance only to get denied coverage. Getting Nico the DOC band is time sensitive because the sooner he gets it the less amount of time he has to wear it and the more effective the treatment will be. Este es Nicholas, el bebé más feliz y amoroso y la luz de nuestras vidas. Por tener solo 5 meses de edad, Nico ha enfrentado algunos retos que ningún padre desea que sus hijos tengan que pasar. Nico nació inesperadamente el 10 de enero de 2019, seis semanas antes de su fecha de nacimiento con un peso de 4 libras 8 onzas.  El 11 de enero de 2019, yo (Andy) pude cargarlo por primera vez en la NICU (Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales) donde pasó los primeros 8 días de su vida. Esos 8 días fueron los días más difíciles y terroríficos de nuestras vidas. Nico ha sido un luchador desde el momento en que nació y es un niño muy fuerte y feliz. Dos meses después de su nacimiento, nos dimos cuenta de que uno de los ojos de Nico no abría completamente, preocupados lo llevamos al pediatra, quien notó que tenía la cabeza plana por un lado, por lo que nos remitieron a un cirujano plástico. quien notó la misma llanura y el cierre de su ojo y nos dijo que tiene plagiocefalia (planitud en un lado de la cabeza) y Torticolis (rigidez en el cuello). La rigidez en su cuello le impidió mover la cabeza hacia la izquierda, lo que hizo que pasara demasiado tiempo a la derecha y por eso se le aplanó la cabeza. Afortunadamente con la terapia física, su Torticolis está casi completamente desaparecida, pero necesitamos la banda DOC (casco para bebé) para corregir la plagiocefalia. Después de la consulta inicial, hace dos semanas, esperamos pacientemente recibir una respuesta de nuestro seguro solo para que se le niegue la cobertura. Obtener a Nico la banda DOC es de urgencia porque cuanto antes lo tenga, menos tiempo lo tendrá que usar. y más efectivo será el tratamiento.
