Hi, I’m DJ Rosegawd!

I’m a Los Angeles-born DJ, event curator, and cultural storyteller who has spent nearly a decade creating experiences that celebrate Black music, film, nostalgia, and community. Through events like Cult Classics, Cult Classics Cinema, Romance Please, Auntie Jamz, and more, I’ve brought people together to celebrate the art and memories that shaped us.

Now, I’m ready to give those experiences a permanent home.

Over the years, one of my biggest challenges has been finding venues that have everything needed to fully realize my creative vision, from quality sound and screens to stages and flexible event layouts. Rather than continuing to work around those limitations, I’ve found a space in Downtown Los Angeles that I want to transform into something special.

My vision is a two-part cultural destination.

One half will be a physical media and record store inspired by the neighborhood music and movie shops I grew up visiting. A place dedicated to preserving Black cultural history through vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassettes, magazines, books, and comics, while also creating opportunities to discover and support today’s Black artists and independent creatives. I want to bring back the excitement of album releases, artist signings, and spending hours discovering something new.

The other half will be an intimate, versatile event space designed to host my existing event series alongside listening parties, film screenings, performances, workshops, and niche cultural experiences created by others.

This space will be a for-profit, independently owned creative business built around something much bigger than transactions: community, cultural preservation, and discovery.

I’m crowdfunding to help secure the location, build out the store, acquire inventory, and invest in the sound, screens, staging, and equipment needed to bring these experiences to life.

I believe collecting physical media is a way of romanticizing your life. It’s about slowing down, surrounding yourself with art that means something, and preserving the things that made us who we are.

I want to create a place where you can walk through the doors and actually feel that.

A safe haven for the past, present, and future of Black creativity. A place to discover something new, reconnect with something familiar, and make memories of your own.

If you’ve ever attended one of my events, supported my work, or believe in the importance of keeping Black art and culture alive, I’m asking you to help me bring this next chapter to life.

Every donation and share brings us closer to opening these doors.

This is more than a record store or an event venue. It’s a home for the culture, and I would love for you to be part of building it.

With love,

DJ Rosegawd
