DIY Kodak Collective Homeless Shelter Project

Hope you are all well and safe in these difficult times.

The DIY Kodak Collective is a group of volunteers working to house vulnerable homeless people from the streets of Brighton. Today, we are fundraising to support core project members who are currently homeless following two illegal evictions in a week. The project has been very successful so far with an amazing community supporting us, but we have faced unprecedented difficulties. Coronavirus and two landlords who have circumvented the legal system to violently evict without notice have resulted in ill and traumatised people without anywhere to go, having lost a lot of their personal belongings. We are aware of the various support networks that have been set up as a response to the current pandemic and have made contact to seek emergency housing. We have been told that it will take a few days, so in the meantime we are asking for your financial support to put our members in a safe hotel room (yes, some are still open!) for a few nights. As some of them are self-isolating, any extra funds will go to provide them with groceries and other essentials.

We have been so warmed by your response since we started at Christmas and we have really valued your donations and time, all of which has made this about much more than just housing vulnerable people. We are a community. It is important to us that we can continue acting as one and provide a bridge between the homeless population and the rest of the city. Please help us to keep the project viable and able to support our members.
