The SRA Distressed Scholars & Artists fund

Over the course of the pandemic, we established a fund to assist scholars and artists who are faced with financial difficulties. With the support of our membership and through donations from generous people, we have been able to assist several people in the past three years with food assistance, help with medical bills for themselves and for beloved pet companions, and with assistance for job related postage and gasoline expenses.

After nearly three years of the pandemic, we find our coffers to be bare. In fact, this fund is at zero while the need remains and continues to grow.

Please help us continue this important part of our mission to be of service to scholars of the arts and artists with a generous donation. Our goal is $2500.00.

What will we use it for?
Assistance for medical expenses
Emergencies happen. Medical care and prescriptions are expensive. We made 2 one time donations to cover medical bills for artists who found themselves in dire need in 2020. In 2021, we also helped with vet expenses for a very special feline companion with a serious and life threatening injury.
Assistance for food and basic necessities.
Food insecurity is real. We prepared "care" baskets of staples for 3 different artists over the course of 2020 and 2021 and 4 early in 2022.
Assistance for career and job related expenses.
Computers break, sometimes we need gas money, sometimes supplies for a project and, all too often, it's that last $50 or $100 or $200 that makes all the difference. This is where we step in to help. Because of the generosity of our donors, we sent a gas card for an artist taking work to a client, repaired a broken alternator for another, we were able to supply a used laptop for a scholar in the hospital for a lengthy stay, and assisted with child care for a scholar who needed it for a job interview. (She landed the job! Yay! Hooray!)
Continued support for the "soup kitchen" and delivery service our much missed Chef in Residence, the late Katie Kane, helped to establish in Yachats, OR.
Prior to the pandemic, the community food pantry assisted 4-5 families in this small community of 500. Today, it has grown to 25 families.
Right now, we don't have any incentive gifts, but stay tuned! We soon will have as our members step up to make this a successful fundraiser.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
