Displaced Collective Fundraiser

Hey there!

We are delighted to present to you Displaced Collective, a grassroots voluntary organisation based in Birmingham. We thank you in advance for your time and would love for you to find out a bit more about us and why you should consider supporting us.

Who are we?

Our Collective is made up of displaced youth, migrant justice advocates, lawyers, medics, artists, academics, writers and many more. Together (yes, with you too) we want to build a space of collective care, joy, hope, healing and dignity with displaced children and young people in the West Midlands.

What do we want to do?

We at Displaced Collective believe in everyone’s right to move and remain. We also believe in every young person’s (and, let’s be honest, adult’s too) right to be celebrated and supported to be whoever they want to be. So collectively we’re channelling our energy and imagination into creating a community space that will do exactly this: welcome, care for, uplift and champion children and young people.

How, we hear you ask?

Well, we want to do two things:

1. Give children and young people practical and emotional support with their needs, particularly to navigate the harmful, hostile systems they’re forced to endure, such as asylum or immigration, criminal (in)justice, social care, age assessments, housing, forced destitution and others.

2. Run a weekly youth club and recreational, educational and creative activities where kids can develop, learn, have fun and build healthy friendships, all of which can have a profoundly transformative impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

What do we need?

The time to do this is now. Living in lockdown has given us all a glimpse into what it feels like to have your life put on hold. Now multiply that by ten when you’re applying for asylum; unable to move freely, work, travel, learn and rebuild for years on end. The damage this does to one’s mental, emotional and physical health is unimaginable.

Kids deserve to be kids. They deserve to be safe, happy and healthy. We’re starting with nothing but with your support we can create a space where young people can flourish. Your support could kickstart our project by funding some of the following and hopefully more:

- Activity resources
- Excursions and sports activities
- Travel costs for young people
- Food and drink
- Costs involved with casework
- Anything else people need

If you want to get involved or have any questions about our work or your donations, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you for being amazing and for reading about and supporting our collective.

With gratitude, solidarity & love,
Displaced Collective
