My heart is broken today. My people are experiencing an invasion. Civilians are dying.
Cambodia is facing the worst refugee crisis since the Khmer Rouge. There have been attacks from Thailand in villages all along the border. Four provinces have been evacuated as of today, December 15th. The number of people who have been displaced is almost 500,000 and still growing. Cambodia does not have the infrastructure to support this many displaced people. It is our job to do what we can.
The majority of people displaced are rural countryside farmers, who live on what they earn per day. Being away from home means that they have no income, their animals are left at home in their villages, and their crops are also left unattended. This means if they ever get the chance to go back home, they will be returning to nothing.
Imagine carrying out your everyday tasks as normal, and then suddenly you have to flee your home with your entire family. Children and the elderly are having to flee miles away from home on motorbikes and tractors with no signs of when they will be returning.
Cambodia is united as one right now, helping each other out in any way possible, all while fearing for their own sovereignty. Sadly, it is just not enough. The uncertainty of the country's current invasion will surely create a humanitarian crisis. This is the second time this year families have been displaced since June. Cambodia needs peace. Cambodians are kind-hearted people that are happy with the very little that they have. We have experienced war before, and we know nothing good comes from it.
I am asking everybody to donate whatever they can. No dollar amount is too small.
Donations will go towards the distribution of food and supplies to displaced families that are currently living outside in tents near various temples.
Please help the Cambodian people in this dire time of need and help us get ahead of a humanitarian crisis.
