On June 8, 2023 — just one day after my mom passed away in our home — a water pipe broke and caused extensive damage. What should have been a routine insurance claim turned into a nightmare.

The insurance company refused to properly remediate the damage, and we were forced to keep living in unsafe conditions. By March 2024, black mold had spread, making it impossible to stay. We had no choice but to move out with our rescue dogs and live in temporary housing.

For nearly two years, the insurance company covered some of our costs, but as of June 2025 they stopped paying altogether — despite their delays being the cause of this crisis.

Where We Are Now

We are in our mid-60s, both facing health challenges, and trying our best to stay afloat. We’ve been relying on credit cards just to cover basic living expenses, but the financial strain has become overwhelming.
