Who are we?

Welcome to ProjectXplore! We are a Global Underwater Explorers project passionate about understanding and conserving maritime history. We aim to locate, dive, identify and document historically significant uncharted shipwrecks in offshore locations all around the UK. More information can be found on our socials: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566542670977 and https://www.instagram.com/projectxplore.gue/.

What is our mission?

ProjectXplore is committed to three main goals that guide everything we do:

1) education - to document historically significant uncharted shipwrecks to better understand their design and the circumstances of their loss;

2) conservation - to understand the shipwrecks’ condition today and how it is changing so that as far as possible our maritime history can be properly conserved for future generations;

3) remembrance - to commemorate the sailors who lost their lives at sea and to provide insights into their stories and experiences.

With your support, we can continue our research and ensure that these pieces of history are preserved for future generations.

Why are we fundraising?

We believe that collaboration can amplify our impact. We are fundraising to help cover the main costs that go into locating shipwrecks:

1) the sea surveys – specifically, the day rate for charter boats and associated fuel costs, which as of 2025 can be up to GBP 1250 per day depending on the transit distance; and

2) the archival materials – specifically, digitizing and printing ship’s plans, charts and other research materials as needed.

As team members are volunteers, time, costs and expenses associated with projects are covered by individuals from their own funds.

Why support us?

By supporting ProjectXplore, you are:

-Helping to further our understanding of naval history.

-Supporting educational initiatives that engage the public.

-Contributing to the preservation of our shared maritime heritage.

-Helping us to honour the sailors who lost their lives at sea.

Our first expedition in July 2025 led to the remarkable discovery and documentation of the wreck of HMS Nottingham, the last missing British cruiser of the First World War and the best-preserved ‘Town-class’ cruiser in the world, which played a pivotal role in the most significant naval battles of the First World War. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us continue our mission to understand, conserve and remember our maritime history. Together, we can ensure that these stories are not forgotten and that we continue to foster a deeper understanding of our maritime heritage. Thank you for considering supporting ProjectXplore.
