My name is Garnel Campbell, and I am a former police officer and teacher from Jamaica. Throughout my years of civil service, I’ve always believed in giving back, building communities, and helping others in their time of need. Today, my country is facing one of its darkest moments — and I’m asking for your help.

Category Five Hurricane Melissa has left a trail of unimaginable destruction across Jamaica. Homes have been reduced to rubble, entire communities are cut off, and thousands of families have lost everything — their shelter, possessions, and access to clean water, food, and electricity.

As someone who has spent a lifetime serving others, I feel a deep responsibility to act. After careful consideration, discussions, and planning with persons on the ground, I have decided to launch a GoFundMe. This GoFundMe aims to provide urgent relief to those most affected by the storm — helping supply food, toiletries, medical aid, temporary shelter, and rebuilding materials to families and communities devastated by this disaster.

The Government of Jamaica has approved a 30-day Tax Waiver, effective October 29, 2025, to November 28, 2025, on specific goods being imported by the general public for recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa. And so, the relief efforts will be spearheaded by a group of Justices of the Peace based in St. James, Jamaica, who will work diligently to identify and provide support to as many families as possible, prioritizing those who are most in need. Their involvement ensures that aid reaches the right hands quickly, fairly, and transparently, and they will document and make publicly available their efforts to this end.

The road to recovery will be long, but Jamaicans are strong, proud, and resilient people. Together, with your help, we can begin to restore what was lost and bring hope back to those who need it most.
