Disabled seniors being evicted need moving expense
Donation protected
We are senior citizens living on Social Security Retirement and Disability.
At the beginning of covid I lost my job of 23 years with the same company. I had a good job, great benefits. I was old enough to get Social Security, which is less than half of my former salary. Forced retirement. Our savings were depleted. Like too many others we’ve never recovered financially.
Our landlord, with whom we had a cordial relationship tried to evict us without giving us a reason, while telling us we’re great tenants. Then she said she wanted to give the condo to her grown children to live in. But that is illegal. She took us to court and lost. Illogical as it sounds, she sold the unit to get us out.
We’re trying to save money to move but most of our income goes to the rent. We now have less than 60 days to vacate, with no place to go unless we can find an apartment and pay the security deposit and mover’s fees.
