Disabled Family Need Help After Devastating Fire

Donation protected
On May 28, 2025, a devastating fire broke out at the Independence Hall Apartments in north Houston—a complex that houses many seniors and people with disabilities. The fire tragically took a life, injured several others, and left dozens displaced. Among those affected are my mother and her husband, both of whom are disabled and have now lost everything.

My mother is blind and disabled. Her apartment was deemed uninhabitable due to the fire, and she now has nowhere to go. Across the hallway, her husband—who is bedbound, uses a wheelchair, and can only be moved using specialized equipment—also lost his home. He requires round-the-clock care and accessibility accommodations, all of which were destroyed or rendered unusable.

They are in urgent need of safe, accessible housing and essential supplies to meet their medical and physical needs. This includes replacing medical and mobility equipment, specialized bedding, clothing, hygiene products, and basic items they relied on daily. Funds will also help cover transportation, medical care, and the ongoing support services needed for their recovery and stability.

Living on a fixed income with limited government assistance, they have very few resources to recover from a loss of this scale. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and go directly toward helping them rebuild their lives. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help spread the word.

Thank you for your compassion and support during this incredibly difficult time.
