Disabled American Vet with hazardous bathroom
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Emily Lake and my grandpa, Richard Lake Sr., is a 73-year-old retired fireman and business owner (Lake Heating and Air-Conditioning). Richard is also a disabled American Veteran who served in the Army and fought in Vietnam. My grandpa sustained many injuries, most in his back, over the years fighting in Vietnam, as well as working in his business.
Richard has also suffered from Parkinson’s for the past 10 years. His Parkinson’s is now in the advanced stages, impacting his mobility around his home. He has had to get surgery and get a stimulator inserted which causes him lots of pain when walking. His current health makes it very unsafe for him to try to get around the bathroom. Some of the most challenging and unsafe things for him include stepping/standing in the shower, using the restroom properly, etc. Richard basically needs his whole bathroom gutted. His shower has a ledge, making it hard for him to get in alone, and he even struggles with the help of my grandma. He also has no rails in his bathroom to hold onto when using the restroom, his bathroom simply isn’t handicap accessible. His shower walls are also duck-taped and falling apart, and the floors are cracked all over and rotting underneath. His bathroom does not allow him to comfortably get around and it is usually a long, painful experience for him.
I created this GoFundMe page because I would love to try and help him remodel his bathroom, considering they have other healthcare costs they are trying to pay off and can’t focus on the bathroom. The funds collected from this GoFundMe page will go straight towards remodeling his bathroom and making it safe for him to use again. Thank you in advance for your generous support, my family and I appreciate it!
