Dina Forever. For her son, mother, and sisters.

On November 30, the brightest light and the sound of laughter was darkened and muted. My beautiful girlfriend, Ney Srey Oun, affectionately known to all as Dina, tragically lost her life to a senseless act of violence. She was too perfect for this world, but enjoyed every second of her time here. Dina spent her life making everyone around her laugh. She was silliness personified and had no idea what it meant to be shy. Never without a toothy ear to ear smile, unless she was sipping her extra extra soooooo so sweet café or Cambodian Beer with ice and a straw, Dina was happy. So were all those that were lucky enough to have spent a single moment with her. She was simply the best. Simply perfect.

My heart aches. She didn't deserve this. She suffered. And now her friends and family suffer. Her young son, Tonuh, will grow up without his mom. He may be too young to even remember her. Her mother is broken. Dina is the third child she has lost and the second daughter this year. Dina was her youngest. Her baby. Dina’s two surviving sisters lost their little sister and will now be raising Tonuh as their own.

Dina was born with nothing. No opportunity. She had one possession. Her love for life. She gave that love and, magically, so much more to everyone she loved. The void left behind can never be filled, but there are ways we can help her son , mother, and sisters.
