Dilshad’s Birthday Fundraiser 2025

My birthday falls on Canada Day. When I first moved to Canada I couldn’t believe my luck! A national holiday and fireworks on my birthday? Who wouldn’t want that?

But over the years I’ve done a great deal of learning and reflection and recognize that July 1 is not a cause of celebration for the people whose land I have chosen to settle on. I benefit from its theft and I feel my birthday falling on this day is the perfect opportunity to do my part towards reconciliation and reparations. So for 5 years now, I’ve been raising funds for an Indigenous cause leading up to my birthday.

This year, I'm raising money to benefit Wigwamen Incorporated because affordable housing is a cause I am deeply passionate about.
