ENGLISH VERSION
Vanda Ortega Witoto is an Indigenous leader, nurse, and activist from the Brazilian Amazon. For years, she has been fighting for the rights of native peoples, the protection of the rainforest, and the health of the communities who live there.
Our team of filmmakers will travel with her to tell her story in a documentary that follows the most meaningful journey of her life — a return to her roots, deep in the Amazon, where she will meet for the first time the Witoto community she was separated from as a child.
The funds raised will be used to support the Witoto people and to cover part of the documentary’s production budget, including:
the donation of monitoring tools to the community (drone, camera traps, and camera),
travel expenses for the team composed of Igor D’India (director), Francesco Magistrali (fixer), and Prisca Gulienetti (production assistant and assistant director),
the journey of Vanda and some of her family members to Amaturá, a remote village accessible only after days of travel along the Amazon rivers.
Your contribution will be essential to:
help Vanda reunite with her people and share her story with the world,
support the Witoto in their struggle against illegal deforestation,
document, through real images and voices, one of the most powerful and authentic stories of today’s Amazon.
The Witoto community, living along a tributary of the Amazon River, faces an increasing threat from garimpeiros (illegal gold miners) responsible for deforestation, pollution, and the destruction of their land.
With the support of the Lightwings Association (which will receive the funds), we will personally deliver modern monitoring tools to help them watch over and document what happens in their territory and share their truth with the world.
As a sign of gratitude, we will thank every donor in our social media content and in the closing credits of the documentary.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
Together we can support Vanda, her community, and the Amazon rainforest — because their story is also ours.
