Greetings Family! I'm hoping to bridge cultural arts, activism & social justice; foster global community & women's leadership; while keeping healing & love at the center during a three week diasporic journey from Oakland, California to to Bahia, Brazil! Please support today by contributing to this collective effort!!
I plan to do this through participation in three international gatherings...
• Encontro Internacional (Aug 16-20)
• Black Feminisms Forum (Sept 5-6)

Black Feminisms Forum
September 5-6, 2016 in Bahia, Brazil
The Black Feminisms Forum will connect Black and Afrodescendant feminists from many regions of the world to celebrate the contribution of Black feminisms to knowledge, practice and struggles for self-determination and justice, while building solidarity and collective power.
“We need a Black Feminist Forum because when we come together we are powerful in our unity, solidarity and commonalities. We need to connect our movements and build with our sisters from across the continent and Diaspora.” --Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is an African feminist who lives and works out of Ghana

Feminist Futures: Building Collective Power for Rights and Justice (13th AWID International Forum)
September 8-11, 2016 in Bahia, Brazil
We seek to deepen our reflection on self and collective care, wellbeing and joy, as integral components in our struggles for rights and justice. The Forum is one step in our collective journey to collect and build knowledges of care, wellbeing and healing justice that respond to our diverse experiences and identities, languages and cultures. This journey is indispensable for our efforts to build collective power, and to embody the feminist futures we dream of.
Have you wondered about...
• How we can take care of ourselves and each other in our struggles, and in situations of conflict and crisis?
• What practices, rituals, knowledge(s) of care are being shared and passed on intergenerationally?
• How can we create organizations and movements where we are impassioned and inspired to work for our cause while centering our individual and collective wellbeing?
Bringing our movements together
2,000 participants from a broad diversity of movements and sectors will collectively strategize for feminist futures: from women’s rights and feminist movements (including special attention to Brazilian women’s rights activists), to peace, economic justice, environmental, and human rights movements, among others.
Traditionally underrepresented or marginalized communities will have a strong presence at the Forum, some of them are: Young feminist activists; Black and Afro-descendant women; Indigenous women; and migrant activists.
(AWID is an international, feminist, membership organization committed to achieving gender equality, sustainable development and women’s human rights.)
